Weather change

Lightning, thunder and heavy rain. Storm clouds and must over Turkey. What a change from the 30 degrees yesterday!

Kas

Nightmare drive from Antalya yesterday. It was pouring with rain, there was dense fog, the driver spent half the time over the foible white lines in the wring side if the road ( what are those white lines for anyway....) and he was on the phone
But we survived and had a lovely dinner in Kas. We woke to this sublime view from the balcony this morning.
Kastellorizo beckons.

Italian in Berlin!!

The cuisine in Berlin us international as I have been informed by Angela.
We persisted with German food for a couple of nights then resorted to Italian. A great improvement.
Tonight Salumeria Enoteca Vaimo in Prenzlauer Berg.
Thanks Jess.

The grounds of the Chalottenburg Palace

The grounds were just beautiful and we were lucky to have a little sunshine. It was still very cold.

More of the Charlottenburg Palace

Charlottenburg Palace

We went by train to the outskirts of the city to visit the Charlottenburg Palace. Only the new wing in its Ruocco style was open, but the rooms were quite stunning.

More decorative motifs from the Ishtar gates from ancient Babylon

Ishtar gate, Babylon

This is again an incredible archaeological structure. It comes from the ancient Babylon. The scale of this is remarkable.

Pergammon Museum

This is the most incredible museum. I can't believe that they took these gates from Miletus in Turkey and reconstructed it indoors in a museum.

Lieberman villa am Wansee

This wonderful villa was a summer house for this artist. It was restored and contained a collection of his paintings, mostly of his house gardens and family
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in the dining room then wandered around house and gardens. A wonderful expedition and a rare glimpse of the life of the priveledged

Kauf Dich glücklich

Sunday, overcast but fine. We first went back to the Prenzlauer Berg districtap and to thus funky little cafe Kauf Dich glücklich.  After breakfast on to the Mauerpark markets.  Endless and not so good in terms of quality if goods.
Off to Tiergarten and a market on its fringe Straße des 17. Juni.  This market was a real treasure trove if antiques, silver and furs.

Maybe this is better!

Hot plums over quark - delicious

Berlin

Well here we are in Berlin at the Brandenberg Gate. Very exciting to see it and walk around it. Closed today because there is a concert on other side and lots of stalls.
