Bees nest

This small funnel shaped bees nest was on the trunk of a tree. Apparently the honey from these bees is sought after and very expensive.

Flowering cactus

We came across this beautiful flowering cactus on the walk. It stood about a meter and a half high.

Umburana tree

This fascinating tree has a green trunk and photosynthesizes through the trunk as well as the leaves.

Walk to cave entrance

The surrounding country was very reminiscent of our north west with a dry wind, red dirt and a sprawling farm house. It was all very structured and organized. We picked up a guide at the top who took us on the tour. He was very well informed.

Funnel web spider nest

We drove for about an hour to an area with many caves. We went to the entrance of a system called Lapa Doce. There was a depression 70meters deep with lush vegetation and we took a winding path to the floor of it. On the way we were shown this funnel web spiders nest.

Lençois

Lençois is a charming town with cobbled streets on the edge of the nature reserve Chapada Diamantina. Lots of tourists visiting the park. The people are very friendly. We found a tour director who arranged a tour for us even though all the tours had already left.
