Downtown

As we walked further South, Downtown, the streetscape became grittier. We were surprised how quiet it was, but suspect that it livens up later in the day. Down towards Little Italy the classic corner Deli's became a feature with pizza slabs, and huge meat rolls and sandwiches. We stopped and had a slice of pizza for lunch in a small park. After that we went westwards to Broadway and the shopping. Mostly chainn stores such as Gap, and some really weird boutiques with painted sneakers, glittery jackets - nothing that anyone I know would wear.
In the evening we walked around the outside of Central Park to the Lincoln Centre and the Met opera. We went to Don Giovanni. It was sucha spectacle - the fabulous modern theatre, patrons dressed up. I must admit nodding off to sleep a few times in the three and a half hours of opera....but certainly an experience to remember.
