Beltana Station

We headed north on the plains to the west of the ranges. The day was brighter by the minute. The plains were truly unremarkable - reminiscent of Eneabba!
We drove into Parachilna Gorge - beautiful but not as spectacular as Brachina Gorge. Back out to the road over the plains and a sortie into Beltana Station. The landscape was rather flat and followed Sliding Rock Creek. We came across the old Beltana Town. Almost deserted with a pub, telegraphnoffice and very many old fireplaces. The town was dependent upon a now defunct nearby mine.
We continued on into a more interesting gulley hoping to stay the night at Warraweena. This is a former pastoral lease now a conservation park. What a disaster. Ramshackle buildings and we couldn't even find anyone to show us where the camps were. We decided to bail and pushed on north.
Past Mount Deception we went into Aroona Dam Sanctuary a place marked on our map for camping. Unfortunately a ranger told us that the map was old....so no camping. By now it was getting on for 3.30.
